Harnessing the power of the sea

Gael Force have worked on a number of pioneering projects with local Inverness construction companies and engineering consultants on feasibility studies and pre contract work for wave energy harvesting. The engineering and fabrication involved in the build of our concretecaisson feed barges has provided the opportunity for us to become involved in the early stages of wave energy exploitation.

Currently we are working on the prototype of a wave energy capture module – the concept of which is to produce a modular build product, scaleable and with an agile deployment capability for placement in high wave energy coastal zones for both community power generation and integration to the national grid network.

The challenges in wave energy harvesting are considerable but fundamental is the ability to be able to make renewable energy sourced power available at low enough cost for it to be viable. We have approached the challenge with a focus on what we have termed ‘agile’ deployment – following a concrete caisson fabrication technique which produces an immensely strong module and yet which can be floated to site and in a building block approach, securely attached to the seabed forming a scaleable ‘wall’ for wave energy capture.

We will be releasing more information on this exciting project in the coming months.
