Life on the water
With a general shortage of urban housing sites, many regenerated city docklands and a network of inland waterways throughout the UK, the concept of floating homes is a very attractive option for home owners. Recognising the interest in floating homes and the opportunity to use our skills and know-how in concrete caisson construction, Gael Force embarked on an ambitious project to engineer and design a range of AquaHomes which were completed during 2008.
Our AquaHomes have been end to end developed with contemporary, architect designed ‘topsides’ – the home or house itself – built on a concrete, floating foundation pontoon. The range of designs offers 2 -4 bedroomed units with optional layouts to take full advantage of specific location, shore access and outlooks.
Gael Force AquaHomes are an exciting new development for the Group and we are now working on the first project which could see a small development of floating homes becoming a reality within 2 years.
In addition to affording an interesting and attractive housing option, floating homes may provide a solution to housing requirements in areas which are prone to flooding or rising sea levels and the AquaHome pontoon is adaptable to a variety of additional uses such as marina offices, yacht club accommodation, fuelling stations and restaurants.
